Obituary of Doris Henke

Doris G. Henke entered her eternal home with Jesus on May 4, 2020 in Ballwin, MO. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norbert L. Henke. They shared sweet times of singing in choirs, traveling, being active at St. Paul Lutheran Church, playing bridge, sharing in Marriage Encounter Love Circle, and spending time with their family. Doris loved being part of the JOY group, active in LWML, garden club and volunteering at church and the community. As a detailed-oriented person, Doris was proficient at typing and shorthand. She used her skills as an administrative assistant at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a law office, and for 10 years at GE Aircraft Engines. Karen (Phil) Hartman, Susie (Don) Kruse and Judy (Ted) Tang loved their mom for the godly example she gave them. Her enthusiasm and willingness to help others is a tribute to her faith in Jesus. She loved to spend time in the garden, sewing, knitting and making her house a home. Her great cooking inspired so many… “if you can read, you can cook. Just follow the recipe!” she would say. Doris loved being “Gram” to Joel (Dorothy) Hartman, Faith, (Bob) Donnelly, Paul (Brooke) Hartman, Elizabeth Hartman, Laura (Dave) Erickson, Ann (Dave) Galik, Stephen (Becca) Kruse. So many memories of times together in Florida, Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Kiawah Island. She rejoiced each time a great grandchild was born with a total of 16 beautiful boys and girls. Doris and Norb were blessed to join the Camp Arcadia family, making it a summer tradition for many years. They introduced Camp Arcadia to other family members and friends… a place to “vacation with God.” While moving from her Cincinnati home was difficult, she quickly acclimated and enjoyed attending every activity at Meramec Bluffs. They provided wonderful and compassionate care for Doris. She lived out her faith and claimed Jeremiah 29:11 as her life verse. “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Camp Arcadia, PO Box 229 Arcadia, MI 49613 or Meramec Bluffs – Employee Appreciation/Christmas, 1 Meramec Bluffs Dr, Ballwin, MO 63021.
