Coach Vockell was a wonderful man. He was so committed to his players and allowed them to make mistakes without ever losing his unstinting support. He made a difference in my development as a young man.

Coach was someone I won’t forget. He was a rock for our soccer team on the sidelines. You could always count on him to be there in his shorts no matter how cold it got shouting encouragement and pushing us to do better and be better.
He definitely helped us learn how to become men and I’ll be forever grateful he was a part of my life. These days we need more leaders and more real men like Coach in the lives of our youth telling us what we NEED to hear and not what we WANT to hear.
He will be missed.

While working at Indian High School, Jim and Susie became a permanent part of our lives through his coaching of soccer. While Jim coached, Susie and I would sit in the stands and discuss life.
Jim was not only a soccer coach to our son but an enormous part of developing him as a wonderful young man.
Jim was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Gail and Scott Nichols

Pop had been a part of our family for over 22 years! He had been an active grandfather figure to not only our two children but also our little granddaughter. His active and intentional commitment in people’s lives was always prominent. I know his legacy will continue through this grandchildren We will truly miss you, Pop!

Q: What will you miss most about James “Jim”?
A: I will miss the love that Jim showed to all those in his life.
My family moved to Cincinnati in 1972 and that’s where we met Jim and Susie. My parents became instant friends with the Vockell’s.
Every year my Dad and Jim went to the Indy 500 and had the best time ever. Susie and my mom took care of the after party when they returned. His son Chris and I were best friends and we got to go with our dads a few times.
Jim was like a father to me. He and Susie were my parents while I was attending Wittenberg University. They came for parents weekend and we always had a great time.
When I got married, Jim attending our ceremony and we had the best time.
Over the years, Jim often visited wherever we were living at the time. And he never forgot a Christmas card or a birthday card.
Jim was an amazing human being. He was a devoted father, grandfather and friend.
I will truly miss Jim and the love he had for his family and friends.
I love you Jim (Dad). Always and forever
Kelly

It has been my great honor to call Jim my friend for over 50 years. I am so saddened to hear of his passing.
Jim was the perfect coach and mentor to so many young men and women. And he did it with such grace and commitment.
Jim and Sue were two of the finest people I have known. Deepest sympathy to Chris and family.
