Obituary of Warren Latimer

LATIMER Warren E., age 92, died peacefully of prostate cancer surrounded by his family at home in Montgomery, OH, on Saturday, June 1, 2013. Warren is survived by his wife Betty (nee Hagan); daughters, Linda (Brad) Trucksis of Indian Hill and Sally Latimer of Delray Beach, FL; and granddaughters, Sarah and Lindsay Trucksis of Indian Hill. Preceding Warren in death are his parents, John G. and Mary Latimer, brother, Ralph Latimer and sister, Ethel Leseman. Warren was a native of Philadelphia, PA and a graduate of Frankford High School in Philadelphia in 1938. With the outbreak of WWII, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served until 1946. He then joined the US Coast Guard Reserves and served for 35 years before retiring with the rank of Commander. Warren graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1950 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. While at Penn State, he was a member of the Blue Key National Honor Society, manager of the Penn State Lacrosse team, and a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, yielding life-long friends, who along with their wives, met annually at Penn State in State College, PA for 30 years during the Fall football weekends to enjoy their close friendships. Following graduation, Warren was employed by the Marathon Oil Company in Robinson, IL where he met Betty, his wife of 62 years. While Warren and Betty subsequently lived in six other cities throughout the South and Midwest, they always considered Robinson their hometown and visited there often. After Marathon Oil, Warren worked for 15 years for James A. Lewis Engineering of Dallas, TX before moving to Worthington, OH, a suburb of Columbus, where he formed his own consulting engineering firm. Warren greatly enjoyed his engineering profession, serving many major corporations throughout the US for 45 years. Warren and Betty lived in Worthington for 40 years where they raised their family and enjoyed a vibrant community life. Warren served as a high school Sunday school teacher and an Elder of The Worthington Presbyterian Church, an active member of the Golden Buckeye Kiwanis Club, and The Worthington Historical Society, among others. Warren had a zest for life and learning, especially continuing his friendships from the many places he and Betty lived. His most treasured moments were time spent with family, especially his much loved granddaughters. He delighted in cooking and the 38 years he and Betty spent as members of a dinner club. He also enjoyed classical music, traveling, gardening and books on U.S. history. Warren's lighthearted sense of humor was a personal trait he enjoyed with others. When not at home, the location he savored most was Hilton Head, SC. Nine years ago, Warren and Betty moved to The Twin Lakes Retirement Community in Montgomery, OH which greatly enriched their retirement life and closeness to family. Shortly after their relocation to Montgomery, they became members of The Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church where Warren served as an Elder. He and Betty have been privileged to worship with such a loving congregation and staff. Upmost in Warren's life was his love for Betty, his family, his friends and the understanding that everyone was of value. Warren's constant faith enabled him to live a life rich in memories and the belief that Heaven is his final resting place. A memorial service will be held at the Madeira-Silverwood Presbyterian Church, 8000 Miami Ave., Madeira, OH (45243) on Sunday, June 30th at 2:00PM. There will also be a chapel service honoring Warren at Twin Lakes Retirement Community, 9840 Montgomery Rd., Montgomery, OH (45242) on Saturday, June 29th at 2:00PM. A private burial has been held. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to Hospice of Cincinnati, P.O. Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH (45263-3597). The family will forever be indebted to the tender love and outstanding care shown to Warren by Hospice.
