I was in 9th grade and in Mr. Dilbone's office for something I was in trouble for and he would always hand me his nail clippers so I wouldn't sit there and bite my nails. He said Cathie why don't you quit smoking and run track for me. I got that shocked look and said I don't smoke. He said come here and look out this window, what do you see ? I told him the street,he said what else. I said the phone co. building, what else he asked? I said the alley, he looked at me with a grin on his face and said and what do you do in the alley at lunch time ? I thought busted. He said you need to quit that, get out of here and behave. He was such a great man to have known.

I was sorry to hear about the passing of my high school teacher and football coach, Hal Dilbone. My thoughts are with Jeff, his mother and the entire family. Hal was a great teacher and cared about his athletes. His love for sports and fitness made it fun to participate. Much of what he taught me has benefitted me in my life.

Coach Dilbone was my Cross Country/Track coach and Mentor throughout my high school years. He could be tough as nails but as compasionate as a Saint. I have nothing but the utmost respect and gratitude for all he did for me and my fellow teamates during my most formitive years. He taught us right from wrong, integrity, loyalty, patience and forgiveness and for that I am forever in debt to him. I want to wish his wife Carolyn my sincerest apologies, you and your family will be in my prayers.

I would like to extend my condolences to the Dilbone family for their loss. Mr. Dilbone was our High School principal at Williamsburg during my senior year. All of the students liked Mr. Dilbone and he made a sincere effort to get to know the student body. He was more like a friend than a principal.

We came to know Coach Dilbone only after he had "retired" from his full time career but experienced his energy and skills as a coach and leader none the less. He had a very rare combination of competitiveness, compassion and knowledge. Our community is a better place for his having lived and taught here. Hal had a profoundly positive impact on many, including myself and my son. His influence was far greater than he knew. His spirit is an inspirational example to us all.

I thank God for people like Hal "Coach" Dilbone who served their country, community, and make a positive influence in young lives. Coach Dilbone worked with Stuart Jr on the football field in Mariemont where we grew to admire his kind spirit. Thanks Coach. Gods' love and strength to the Dilbone Family.

Saddened to read of his passing. Hal was the best track coach ever. He was a role model for me as a teacher, coach and principal. What a positive influence he had on the lives of so many young people in those 55 years as an educator. I have so many wonderful memories of him. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
