Mary Ellen, Mikey, Sean and the Fitzpatric Family: I am so so very sorry for your loss. Mary Ellen, from the day you first met, I know how you brought focus into Mike's life and how much he loved you because he told me on more than one occasion. And Mikey and Sean, your Dad was so proud of all you have both accomplished in life--you gave him purpose. For me, it is difficult to express the loss of a Best friend who gave and taught me so much through our life experiences together at UD, living with 'the Bear', Verna, and Frog in Blue Ash and playing in the Changing Thymes. They were the best of times. Throughout college, we were pretty much inseparable from the time Mike took me under his wing as a Freshman in the Band. He had confidence in my abilities when I did not have confidence in myself---and he knew just how I needed to be pushed in music to be better and do better--he chose me for solos that I didn't think I could cut, but he believed in me as a Best friend does. And he had enough faith in me to ask me to be in the Changing Thymes, to play trumpet and sing in front of a lot of people---it was by far the best learning experience of my life. Little did I know at the time that later in life, it would give me the confidence to speak and give presentations in front of a large group of people, and that has been an invaluable asset throughout my business career. To me, Mike was an amazingly talented man that I was lucky enough to hang with and learn from. And he had those magic hands on keyboard that would entertain the girls at Marycrest and Campus South...and it gave me the chance to meet those girls. But the best times were cruising from UD to Blue Ash on a Friday night in the big green Olds 98, drinkin beer and talking about fishing, music, and women. Or going to listen to Orange Colored Sky or Eddie Cochran in downtown Cinci. Or watching Mike play a gig with Bluestone Ivory. Or seeing Lou Rawls coming into Loll 43 night club after his gig to listen to the featured band.... the Changing Thymes. It didn't get any better than that. I will dearly miss my friend Fitz. He was quite a man, and quite a friend.

My sincere condolences to Mike’s wife and children; I was very saddened to learn of his passing. Mike was a wonderfully gifted musician with a great personality and a sharp sense of humor. The sight of him and I, long-hairs, squeezed into ROTC uniform caps at UD, must have made it difficult for even the most severe commander to keep a straight face. Mike and I last met in 1974 when he was playing piano (expertly) at a club on Price Hill; he graciously came by after every set and we chatted long into the evening about his favorite repertories and his approach to jazz improvisation. His insights were fascinating and I remember those times with considerable nostalgia. Mike was, truly, one of a kind. I am grateful to have known him. My thoughts are with his family.

To Mike's family....So sorry to hear of your loss. Mike was a "Special-Energetic-Friendly classmate of mine at Moeller. I graduated with Mike. When I look back at those years, I value the time I had with Mike. A real "class" act. He added to the lives of many people. He is home...Thanks Mike

I am very sad to hear of Mike's passing. He was such an influence on me as a young music student at UD. I had never met anyone of his talent and personality. Mike lead by example and set the bar very high indeed. As is true with many people we know in college, we lose contact, but the examples Mike set were never far from my mind. We all will carry a bit of him with us. In many ways I am a better person for having known him, and I am very thankful for that. Best wishes, thoughts and prayers to Mike's family and friends.

Heartfelt sympathies to Mary Ellen and family. Mike and I were part of a small class of music majors who entered the University of Dayton in the fall of 1969. Hard to believe that two from our ranks - George and Mike - are now gone. I remember sitting in Albert Emmanuel Hall listening to Mike play the piano. As an 18 year old, I had never known anyone who could just sit down and play jazz piano and I was in awe. We gave Mike a hard time about falling asleep in Music History class after a long night of playing at a piano bar, but down deep we were all jealous of his incredible talent. We never corresponded much after college, but last sumnmer, Mike emailed to see if I would be going to the Centerville DCI show and hoping we could catch up. So sorry now that I wasn't able to attend. Rest in peace dear friend. I know God is enjoying your beautiful music as you play for the Heavenly Hosts.

What great Memories I do have of Mike! He was a dear friend and helped get me through college, so many years ago! I remember coming into Marycrest, which at that time, was an all girls dorm, and he'd be sitting at the piano playing. I would sit and listen to him for such long times! And the band trips, and how great a musician he was. He actually took me as a FRIEND "date" to my Sophomore Year Homecoming--it was in his Dad's car--so elegant, and such a gentlement. I knew I was not his first choice to go, but we had a great time, regardless, with all the other BAND members too. I know I did not keep in touch much; but was so very happy to see Mike and his lovely family @ BANDcoming a few years back. I know MIke will be sorely missed, as he brought smiles to everyone around him. I hope all area able to keep the good memories alive, and as I am sure you have heard over and over, he is now in a better place, and jamming with George. And I am sure the choirs of angels and God-himself, are all humming along and tapping their toes too! God Bless Mike--He's someone I will NEVER forget! THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES! You helped make my years at U/D an awesome time for me!
