Obituary of Mary "Maggie" Ryan

Mary M. “Maggie” (nee Tipton) Ryan died peacefully in the early morning of October 30th. She was in her home with her husband by her side, after fighting a battle with Parkinson’s Disease for 13 years. Maggie was born in Robbinsville, North Carolina, to her parents, E.L. and Iva Lee Tipton. After high school, Maggie moved to Cincinnati to start her business career. She became involved in the insurance industry and eventually had a 40-year career working for only two agencies. She started out with the venerable Cincinnati firm of Maggini, Fead and Chambers before transitioning to the Walter P. Dolle agency. Maggie had a reputation for being a hard worker with a big smile. Her elegant appearance contrasted somewhat with her very approachable personality. Maggie enjoyed participating in the Insurance Women Associations and she held many high officer positions during her career. When away from the office, Maggie had two great passions: her gardens and her animals. She loved working in her gardens and yard at her home in Kenwood. She turned it into a masterpiece that was admired by neighbors and visitors alike. She also has a deep love for all animals, especially the numerous lucky cats and pups that found their way into her home, as well as her heart, and never left. On Saturdays in the fall, you would find Maggie in South Bend, Indiana cheering on Mike’s Alma Mater, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. She transformed what had previously been a rather unruly and disorganized tailgate party into a wonderful tradition beloved by members of Mike’s graduating class, “The Great 68”, as well as the many other Fighting Irish fans that would spend fall weekends in South Bend. Maggie was a devoted wife to Michael J. Ryan for 41 years. She is survived by her niece, Barbara Tipton of Loveland, Ohio and nephew Rick Tipton of Hillsboro, Ohio, as well as many other relatives and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Virgie, and her brothers Arnold, Chester, Clell and Harold Tipton. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Tuesday, November 7th from 10AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial, 11AM at St. Saviour Church, 4136 Myrtle Ave. (45236) Rossmoyne. Interment will be held privately, but all are encouraged to join the family for lunch after mass. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in Maggie’s memory to the Cincinnati SPCA or any organization that helps our animal friends.
